What are our operating hours?

Our operating hours are Monday to Friday 8.30-17.30 excluding public holidays and during the Christmas / New Year Break; when our rooms will be closed for longer.

Is it easy to get to Mitcham Rd Consulting Suites?

We are conveniently located on the corner of Mitcham Rd and Hedge End Rd in Nunawading. We are quite close to 2 exits from the EastLink Freeway. You can take the Springvale Rd/ Nunawading exit or the Mitcham exit and within less than 5 minutes you should reach us.

Can I walk in for an unbooked consultation with one of the doctors?

No. This is a specialist centre and a referral is required from your local doctor before you can see one of our specialists.

Can I walk in to have a respiratory function test or a cardiac test without a booking?

No. You must have a booking beforehand.

Where is the closest radiology service?

We a have close radiology service within a kilometre at Mitcham Private Hospital.

What is a sleep study?

A sleep study is an overnight study usually conducted to diagnose sleep apnoea; however can also be useful to diagnose a number of other sleep disorders such as insomnia, periodic limb movement of sleep and REM disorders. You usually sleep in hospital with a number of special monitors attached, and go home the next morning.

Where are the sleep studies conducted?

For private laboratory sleep studies, they are conducted at Mitcham Private Hospital within a kilometre distance from the rooms. For public laboratory sleep studies, they are conducted at the Austin Hospital; the one of the biggest sleep laboratories in Australia and the centre for chronic ventilation "Victorian Respiratory Support Service or VRSS". Our sleep physician has a public appointment at the Austin Hospital including the VRSS. Arrangements can also be made for ambulatory home sleep studies.

Are sleep studies uncomfortable?

Although it may be slightly uncomfortable to have some monitoring attached to you when sleeping; the far majority of patients tolerate it quite well without any problems.

What is a lung function test?

Simply it is a test to determine certain lung volumes, airflow and oxygen transport inside the lungs. There are also tests to determine the presence or absence of asthma.

Is it difficult to have a lung function test?

Children as young as 6 years can do a lung function test. You will be required though to blow in the equipment as hard as possible to get the required measurements. Most people can perform the test without major difficulty.

What cardiac tests are available?

We have echocardiography to assess the function and structure of the heart, exercise testing and stress echocardiography to assess blood flow to the heart. Please refer to the section under services for more details.
